(13) Sir Richard Croft of CROFT , knight , m. Eleanor, daughter of Sir Edmund Cornwall, Baron of Burford, Co. Salop, Knight—and widow of Sir Hugh Mortimer of Kyre Wy- ard, Co. Worcester, Knight.

Kinsman and next heir of Joan Croft, 25 September 1445, then aged 14. Obtained a grant to him and his heirs male of the Manor of Burford. Sheriff of Herefordshire 1470, 1471, 1476 and 1485. Knight of the Shire for Co. Hereford 1466, 1477-8. Treasurer of the King’s Household 1485. Knight Banneret, so
created at the battle of Stoke, 6 June 1487. He brought Edward Prince of Wales to King Edward V after the battle of Tewkesbury and is described as a “ wyse and valyant Knight.” One of the Council to Arthur, Prince of Wales 1497. Died 29 July 1509. Will dated 19 June, proved 11 November 1509 (P.C.C.) Inquisition

Eleanor (née Cornwall). Eleanor was the daughter of Sir Edmund Cornwall, Baron of Burford in Shropshire, and the widow of Sir Hugh Mortimer of Kyre Wyard and Martley, Worcestershire, who was killed in action at the Battle of Wakefield on 30 December 1460.[14]= "Martley: The Mortimers"

(2) Sir Richard Croft of Croft Castle, Herefordshire, Kinght of the Bath, Member of Parliament, d. 29 July 1509 (173) bur. Yarpole, Herefordshire, will dated 19 June, proved 11 Nov. 1509. [174] Eleanor was widow of Hugh Mortymer [175] who. d. 3 June 1460. 176 bur. St. Peters, Martley, Worcestershire, Eleanor, relict of the "nobleman Sir Hugh Martymere knight of Cuyre Wysard.
Sir Richard Croft was Member of Parliament for Herefordshire 1461-62, possibly 1463-65 and 1478. [179] He proved himself a faithful adherent of the king by safely delivering Prince Edward to King Edward V after the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471.
