"Benjamin Cotten became a land owner in 1806, on land surveyed by a John Cotton, located on Little River. JOHN and YOUNG COTTON had land together on Little River from 1798, as did a William and Thomas Cotton. Benjamin Cotten remained on the Tax Records of Christian County, KY from 1806 through 1809, at which time it is supposed he removed to Gallatin County, IL, where the family remained at least through 1817, when their son Thomas Wadlington Cotten was born." (Cotten Picking pg. 6).
