28 Feb 1816 Elias Cotton, Robertson TN, sold Benjamin McIntosh, Robertson, 52 acres on waters of Sulpher Fork of Red River for $200. Robertson TN Deeds Bk L p 301-303.

April term 1838 Thomas McIntosh’s will was presented for probate in Stewart County, Tennessee. It named his daughters Delila Price, Nancy Flippo, Zilphy Cotton and Sary Scholes and his son Benjamin McIntosh. Benjamin and Joseph Scholes were to be the executors. In January of 1836 Elias Cotton registered his cattle mark in Pope County.
Elias Cotton died the same year
After Elias' death his son, George Washington Cotton, presented a bill:
"I have a clame for 28 days work 50 sents per day $14." It was for "work done in trying to save tobacco" raised on the farm.

(My Note: I do not think that Rachel was George W. Cotton's mother. Rachel is 20 to 30 in the 1830 census and 30 - 40 in the 1840 census (b. between 1800 - 1810). George W. Cotton, age 20 - 30, in the 1840 census (b. between 1810-1820) and age 51 in the 1860 census (b. abt. 1809) would make him very close to the age of Rachel. This may account for the claims filed against his father in 1830 as well as a claim filed after his father's death in 1836.

Elias' wife, Rachel, married Jacob Caleb Slankard, 27 Feb 1845 in Pope Co., Illinois. Cemetery records list Jacob's death as 1854. (Findagrave.com - Shedville Cemetery)
There are no 1850 census entries for Jacob Slankard and wife Rachel or George W. Cotton in order to obtain a more certain birth year for Rachel.
