In Emma (Hood) Filmore's Miller Application, dated 10 June 1907, she gives the names of her grand parents as James and Polly Downing ne Blackwell. Emma states that they were whites. She also states that James Downing, her paternal grandfather, was born in Cherokee Nation East and in 1851 were living in Cherokee Nation. Emma states the following
James Hood, My father, dead
Richard Hood died without descent.
Tillman or Barrow Hood, died without descent.
David Hood dead.
Ellis Hood died without descent.
John Hood died without descent.
Catherine Sanders, dead.

He died without descent. In some of the Guion-Miller Applications it is stated that the three son's of Mr. Downing took there mother's second husband's name of Hood

Notes:

Lydia (Hood) Tyner, daughter of David and Rebecca (Griffith) Hood, states in her Miller Appliation: "My uncle Jess or Tillman Hood".
