Thomas 'Deacon' TARBELL, III:

Buried: OCT 1715, Robbins Cemetery, Lexington, Middlesex Co., MA

Notes:

Thomas(3) Tarbell and Elizabeth Lived at Groton, where he was town clerk, 1704-1705. Thomas was chosen Deacon of the church at Groton, April 22, 1715, and died at Lexington, where his sister Anna was living of the same year. He was buried in Lexington. His will, dated September 26 before his death, names his wife and all of his children, provision being made for his three children, John, Zachary and Sarah, in the event of their return from captivity.
Sarah, John and Zachariah were taken captive by the Indians, June 20, 1707. Sarah died unmarried in Canada. John and Zachariah both married in Canada and had Indian decendants.(a)

There is much confusion, in the literature, about the identity of Thomas Tarbell's wife Elizabeth. Shattuck's Memorials, on page 369, lists wife as "Elizabeth dau. of Richard and Isabel Blood".
Caleb Butler's History of Groton on page 440 (see above), and Samuel A. Green's, Epitaphs from the Old Burying Ground in Groton, Massachusetts, Boston: Little, Brown, & Company, 1878 page 256 call her Elizabeth BLOOD. Green says she was daughter of Richard and Isabel Blood.
But, Samuel A. Green, on page 28 (Death of their son Thomas Tarbell) identifies her as Elizabeth WOODS, not Elizabeth BLOOD:

Here lies the Body of Cap't Thomas Tarbell Who Departed this Life May the 30th 1757 Aged 69 years 8 Months and 5 day.
"Author's Note: The eldest son of Thomas and Elizabeth (WOODS) Tarbell born Sept. 15, 1687"
Samuel Green also denotes her as Elizabeth (Woods) Tarbell for "Authors Note"for their son Samuel Tarbell.
I follow Elinor F. Skeate, "The Family of Thomas Tarbell II of Groton, MA, 1618-1994", published by the author, 1998 who writes in a footnote:
"Middlesex Ct. of Sessions, V. 1, p. 302, contains a petition of Thomas Tarbell, stating he had supported his father-in-law, SAMUEL WOODS, and asks that the other children help with his support."
