Notes:

ref. : Dr. Thompson research for Hikaru Kitabayashi (with Hikaru's permission)
"William Cotton was not enumerated in 1830. He might have been the extra male in Seth Cotton's family-if so, his age was wildly wrong- or, since his will mentions a grandson Andrew Jackson Cotton, who was not a son of Seth, he may have been living with his grandson's father, whose name we do not know.
His will dated September 28, 1836 and proved January 7, 1840 clearly mentions and remembers his son Seth, though his reference to his wife Nancy makes it clear that she was a younger second wife who might give her an heir and could not have been Seth's mother. The land mentioned in his will was bought as late as December 30, 1834 from William Jenks for $150.00, Seth Cotton being a witness [Randolph Co. Deeds C:616, recorded June 8, 1840].
The probate of his will had been several months delayed, for on March 11, 1839 Nancy (X) Cotton, widow of William cotton, conveyed to Seth Cotton, both of Randolph County, for $300 her dower right in 202-acres in Lot 81, District 8, as widow of William Cotton."
