Know all men by these Presents, That we William Cotton all of the County of Edgcombe and State aforesaid, are held and firmly bound unto Etheldred Philips Sheriff of the County aforesaid, in the Sum of Two Hundred & fifty Pounds current Money of the said State, to the which payment will and truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves, our Heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns, jointly Severally and firmly by these presents. Sealed with our Seals and dated this _th [sic] Day of July Anno Domino 1794

The Condition of the above Obligation is such, that if the above bounden William Cotton shall make his personal appearance at the County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, to be held for the County of Edgecombe in Tarborough on the last Monday in August next, then and there to answer unto Charles Cotton administrator of all and singular the goods to which were due [sic] of Rob.t Cotton dec’d of a plea that he render him one hundred & twenty Five pounds which from him he unjustly detains _ to his damage fifty pounds and then there stand to and abide by the judgment of the said Court, and not depart the same without leave had obtained then the above Obligations to be void, otherwise to remain in full Force and Vertue Signed, Sealed and Delivered} Wm Cotton {Seal}
