John Tomlinson was a weaver and lived in Bern township, Berks County, Pa. He came about 1740 to that territory (then being in Lancaster Co.) He was of Irish descent. His wife had preceded him in death, when he died in April 1794. They had six children. He was not a member of the Society of Friends, although members of his family were. His will follows:

Will of John Tomlinson, Weaver, of Bern Township, Berks Co., Pa.

Unto - the children of my daughter Ann wife of Jesse Yarnall - 50 lbs. to be equally divided among them--in two years time after my decease.
Unto Daughter Sarah- 60 lbs.-1 year after my death.
Unto sons- Thomas, Henry, James, John, all the rest of my estate- equally divided."

Will signed 12-30-1789 and probated 5-20-1794.

James Tomlinson and John Tomlinson, son of William, to be executors.

Witnesses- Thomas Wright, Evan Hughes, Thomas Wright, Jr.
