WILLIAM STOKES (STOAKS, STOCKS, STOIKS, STOAKES)
On July 31, 1622, Christopher Stokes (Stoaks, Stocks, stoiks, Stoakes) and his wife, Mary, set sail for Virginia on the James, probably bringing along their young son, William. In 1624 the Stokes most likely lived on Jamestown Island (1), where William, who waws then 5 years old, witnessed the drowing death of George Pope II, alocal youngster. Christopher and William Stokes, were among those who testified at a coroner's inquest (FER 400, McGC; 38)
(FER= Ferrar Papers, 1590-1790 Pepy's Library, Magdalen College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, England.)
