Gower Descent
1. Francis Gower, born say 1485, was the third son of Thomas Gower of Woodhall (in the parish of Norton-justa-Kempsey). Worcestershire, by his wife Ann (Washbourne), daughter of Norman Washbourne of Wichenford, Worcestershire. Francis settled in the borough of Droitwich, wehre he was bailiff in 1516.(73) He first married Fortune Rudyng (Redyage), daugher of John Redynge of Wych (Droitwich) (74) but had no surviving issue by that union. Humfrey Rudyng of Droitwich, Esquire, and Francis Gower of Droitwich, gentleman, occur next to each other in a list of men who owed debts in London in 1510. (75) Francis Gower and William Newport were the two men appointed on 6 January 15 Henry VII (1524) to collect the subsidy in Droitwich. (76) Frances Gower was assessed on both lands and goods in the 1522-3 military survey. It appears that Francis married his second wife, Joyce Blount, about 1528-29 as he only had one childe at the time of the Visitation of Worcestershire in 1531.
There is no doubt that Joyce blount married Francis Gower, bore his children, and survived him, as their eldest son, John Gower of Stone, referred to his cousins Gilbert Blount and Sir Edward Blunt of Kidderminster in his will of 1609/10.
