John Henry ‘Jack’ Snow

John Henry “Jack” Snow, 87, of McAlester, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with W. Lee “Dub” Brown officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Oct. 25, 1920, in North McAlester, he was the son of John Henry and Mittie L. Snow. He moved to Wilburton at the age of 10 and attended school there, graduating from Wilburton High School in 1938.

He returned to McAlester at that time and was employed at the McAlester Fruit Company until his induction into the United States Army in 1942. He served with the U.S. Army Ordnance Department in Europe and participated in the landing at Normandy Beach. He was honorably discharged from the service as a master sergeant in December 1945.

Upon his return, he worked as a salesman for the Griffin Grocery Company until 1950. He then worked at Seamprufe, now Komar, as a department head for 34 years until his retirement in 1984.

He was a 50 year member of South McAlester Masonic Lodge 96, a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Bedouin Shrine Temple of Muskogee. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 79 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of McAlester.

He married Mildred O. Boyd on May 20, 1949, and she preceded him in death on August 27, 2000.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, John H. Jr. and Joyce Snow, Van Buren, Ark.; grandchildren, John H. Snow III and his wife, Anna, Fort Smith, Ark., and Joshua L. Snow and his wife, Delina, VanBuren, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Caroline Snow, Madesen Snow, and Kirah Snow; a stepgreat-grandson, Seth Hosier.

Also, one brother, William T. “Bill” Snow, of McAlester; nephews, Michael L. Snow, of McAlester, Tom Snow, of Tulsa, Kyle Mitchell and his wife, Karon, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dr. John Gossett, Dallas, and Jim Snow and Harold Snow, Dinuba, Calif.; niece, Jeanne Curry and her husband, John, Dallas.

And, great-nieces and great-nephews, Justin Snow, Shawntelle Snow, Adam Snow, Angela Gonzales, Chase Mitchell, and Chad Mitchell, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irma and Bob Barrigan, of Oklahoma City, Comella and Kenneth Bone, of Tulsa, Mavis and Ernie Tobler, of Spiro, Freda Whitehead, of McAlester, and Carl Haywood, of Broken Arrow.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, James M. Snow, and two sisters, Montez Adams and Jeanne Mitchell.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Lacey, Howard Murphree, Guy Pearson, Leonard Dunn, Ben Murdaugh, and grandsons, Johnny Snow and Josh Snow.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eudell Barnes, B. A. “Bill” Perona, and members of his Sunday School class.
