Will of Young Stokes
I, YOUNG STOKES, of Lunenburg County, in perfect sense and memory.
To my son HENRY STOCKES - my land and plantation whereon I now live after the death of my wife ELIZABETH STOKES, and 1 other tract of land on the head branches of Tusikiah Creek, containing 480 acres, and also 40 pounds.
To my daughter CECILIA STOKES - Negro girl Dinia.
The land and plantation that I purchased of my son SILVANUS STOKES, containing about 292 acres, may be sold by my executors, to raise money to discharge my just debts, and if there is money left over, the overplus to be equally divided with the rest of my personal estate.
To my wife ELIZABETH - the use and occupation of the lands and plantation whereon I now live, between Little Creek and Nutbush Creek, during her natural life or widowhood, also Negroes SHARPER, JACK, NICK, SARAH, BELLOW, Old DINAH, TIM, PETER, LEMANDER, MOLLEY & PATON, and the rest of my personal estate. After the death of my wife, the 11 Negroes to be equally divided between my 9 children, to wit, SILVANUS STOKES, ALLEN STOKES, WILLIAM STOKES, HENRY STOKES, SUSANNAH CHRISTOPHER, MARY ANN NEAL, LUCY ANDERSON, CECILIA STOKES & to my daughter ELIZABETH BLAGRAVE. I lend an equal part of my estate with the rest of my children, during her natural life, and at her death, to be equally divided amongst her children then living. If HENRY BLAGRAVE, the husband of my daughter, ELIZABETH BLAGRAVE, should refuse or not be able to give bond & sufficient security for the conveyance of that part of my estate that I lend to my daughter ELIZABETH BLAGRAVE, then my executors shall divide that part of my estate among ELIZABETH BLAGRAVES children then living.

At L. Court of 13 Dec. 1770, the will of Young Stokes deceased was exhibited in court by both executors, proven by the oath of 1 of the witnesses. The executors were granted a certificate for obtaining a probate; Lyddal Bacon and Robert Beasley were their securities. And at L. Court of 14 Feb 1771, the will was further proved by the oath of the other witness, and ordered recorded.
