Thomas Cotten, Will, Amite County, Mississippi Territory, of sound and perfect mind, do make, establish and declare this instrument of writing, which is signed with my hand, as my last will and testament, hereby annulling revoking and declaring all others utterly void and of no effect.
That is to Say,
To my dearly beloved wife, Anne Cotten I hereby loan six negro slaves vis Daniel, Squire, Sommersett, Betty, Phillis, and Elsey, and their increase together with all of the stock of every Kind, the wagon and team, all the household and Kitchen furniture of every description, and at the end of her natural life, it is my will and desire, that all the property above mentioned, shall be given to, and be equally divided between my two beloved sons Thomas and Willis Cotten.
To my beloved son Samuel Cotten, I hereby give, grant and bequeath the sum of one dollar.
To my lawful heirs of my beloved son, John Cotten, I hereby give grant, and bequeath the sum of one dollar.
To my beloved daughter Nancy Cotten, I hereby give, grant and bequeath the sum of one dollar.
To my beloved daughter Sally Cotten, I hereby give, grant and bequeath the sum of one dollar.
To my beloved son Asa Cotten, I hereby give, grant, and bequeath one negro girl slave, named Sylvey.
To my beloved daughter Elizabeth Wilson, I hereby give, grant, and bequeath two negro slaves, of the names of Chaney and Lewis, which slaves I wish to remain with her during her natural life, and at her death I wish the same to be given to the heirs of her body.
To my beloved son Thomas Cotten, Junior, I hereby give, grant and bequeath three negro slaves, of the names of Jobb, Jim and Isaac.
To my beloved daughter Zelphy Smith I loan three negro slaves, of the names of Esther, Maria and Aletha, and their increase, which property it is my will and desire, shall remain with her during her natural life, and at her death, I wish the same to be equally divided and given to the lawful heirs of her body.
To my beloved daughter, Susanna Swearingen, I hereby loan two negro Slaves of the names of Sarah and Edmond, and the increase, shall remain with her during her natural life, and at her death I wish the same to be given to, and to be equally divided between the lawful heirs of her body.
To my beloved son, Abel Cotten, I hereby give, grand and bequeath three negro Slave, of the names of Jeffrey, Matilda and Stephen.
To my beloved son, Haley Cotten, I hereby give, grant and bequeath three negro slaves, of the names of Eliza, Jacob and David.
To my beloved son, Willis Cotten, I hereby give, grant and bequeath three negro Slaves, of the names of Hampton, Isabelle and little Betty.
Lastly, I hereby make constitute and appoint my dearly beloved wife, Anna Cotten executrix and my beloved sons Thomas Cotten and Willis Cotten Executors of this my last will and testament.
In Witness whereof, I, the aforesaid Testator have hereunto affixed my hand and Seal, this Nineteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and sixteen.

After having heard the above and A—exed [sic] will read, and considered all the circumstances of this case. I am of opinion, and it is my will and desire, that my dearly beloved sons, Thomas Cotten and Willis Cotten, shall have the sole and entire management of all the property reserved for the use of my dearly beloved wife Anna Cotten, upon the express condition, that she shall be decently, comfortably and genteely [sic] maintained in all her reasonable desires by the aforesaid Thomas Cotten and Willis Cotten during her natural life.
I witness whereof, I have also signed and Sealed this will with my own hand, and do hereby intend it as part of my last will and testament
