Notes:

Escape of Wm Alias 'Shang' McLaughlin
It is stated that McLaughlin, after the house of Maggie Mitchell had been demolished by the Cotton Brothers on the evening before the murder, urged Maj. Lochman, who was a very brave fellow and a friend of Maggie Mitchell, to go to her house in the evening, if not affraid to meet the Cottons there. When he arrived there, Lochman went into a back parlor, when McLaughlin said to the Cottons, "If you want to go for him, why don;t you do it," and thereby urging Leroy Cotton to go into the room and assisted by Henry Cotton the shot Lochman.
