John was a Captain in the Revolutionary War.
John's will was signed on 20 November 1776 and probated on 28 November 1776,
Pittsyvania County, Virginia, Deeds and Will Book #5, Page 421. The executors
were his wife Ann, and brothers Thomas and Charles and his beloved friend John
Parks, Jr. The witnesses were John Richard Taliaferro, Moses Hutchings and
Aaron Hutchings. Legatees: Ann Hutchings (widow), Thomas, Christopher,
Elizabeth and John Hutchings.
Will of John Hutchings, Pittsylvania, Virginia
(Asks Gods forgiveness of sins, bequeaths his soul unto God. Desires all
funeral expenses to be paid.) It is my desire that the 225 acres that my
father gave me joining (Chamberlains) line of the place where I now live with
all the appurtenances --Negroes --- --- household furniture, I give to my
beloved wife Anne to have the use of the --- -- --- her widow hood to raise my
children and in case she dies on ---- ---- my wish is that my land with the
above appurtances be ---- ---- ---- the benefit of my children until my
youngest child come of age or marries and that then the land be sold by my
Executor the money arising from the sale, with my personal estate be
equally divided among my four children, Thomas, Christopher, Elizabeth and
John. With --- that my wife is now pregnant --- --- --- ---. Furthermore my
wish is that if my wife chooses not to continue on this place, that executors
make sale of this land and purchase where it my be most (unreadable for about 3
lines) convenient for my wife and children --- do constitute and appoint my
beloved wife Anne, my brothers Thomas Hutchings and Charles Hutchings and my
beloved friend John Parks my Executors to this my last Will and Testament. In
witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of Sept.
1776.
