No. 2. Samuel Paxton, Sr. - Immigrant
Son of James (No. 1 was born in Ireland in 1670 and died in Cumberland Township, in the present County of Adams, Pa., about 1746. He was an old man in 1741, when warrants were granted for his lands. He paid taxes at least as early as 1731. His home on Marsh Creek seems to have been the nucleus of the family. He came about 1730. The name of his wife is unknown. He was probably a brother or nephew of Hugh Paxton of Maryland. The Thomas Paxton who was taxed in 1722, is supposed to have been his brother, and the Thomas born in 1713 and married Jane Aston may have been his nephew.
