Oldham county was formed on December 15, 1823 from Henry, Jefferson and Shelby counties. It was named for Colonel William Oldham of Jefferson county. The county seat is LaGrange. The area was explored in 1774 by Colonel John Floyd. Westport was an early county seat.

OTTO Nov. 19 - Jacob Tucker died on Friday November 18th, at 8:45 a.m. He was born in Henry County, Ky., January 15, 1808. He was a saddler by trade, and had a shop at Westport, Oldham County, Ky., for about twenty years preceding 1851. In that year he moved to a farm in Bethlehem Township, Clark County, where he resided until he died. He was married to Caroline Cosby of Madison, in 1835. By her he had thirteen children, eight of whom survive, all residents of Clark and Jefferson counties except the eldest Perry Tucker, who lives in Arkansas.

Caroline's father was deceased at the time of this marriage and permission was given by next of kin, Martha Elly, with whom Caroline lived. There is a Patsey Ealy listed as head of household on the 1830 Oldham Co, KY census with one male 20 - 30 years old, one female 15 - 20 years old (Caroline?) and one female 40 - 50 years old (Patsey).

Know all men by these presents that we Jacob Tucker and William Foree are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the sum of fifty pounds for the payment of which will and truly to be made good we bind our selves and heirs ___ ? ___ , And severally, firmly by these presence as Witness our hands and seals this 29th day of Aug 1835. The condition of the above Obligation is such that a licence is about to issue from the Clerks office of the Oldham County court for the marriage of the above bound Jacob Tucker to Caroline M. Cosby daughter of ___(space left blank) Cosby dec'd. consent being certified in writing by the next of kin.
Now if there should be no lawful cause to obstruct the marriage intended to be solemnized between the above named persons then this bond to be__and remain in full force and Vertue in Law Test A. M Bullard
