I'm new to the list. I'm researching the family of Lemuel Cotton. He died
in 1801 in Jefferson County, Mississippi. His wife was Abigail Dickerso
His children were Mary "Polly", Nancy, John, James, and Thomas. They all
lived in the Claiborne, Jefferson, and Amite County areas of Mississipp
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any information concerning the parents or siblings of
Lemuel Cotton? I have his children's information, and his will, but wou
like to trace him. I found the following notations in the Sumner County,
Tennessee County Court Minutes Vol.III 1796-1802:

Page 173: Ordered that Reuben Douglass, William Brigance, William Mc Adams,
LEMUEL COTTON, & John Josey be appointed as a Jury to view, lay off & mark
the road ordered to be laid off so as to leave out the place where Robe
Looney is now erecting a mill and also the place where he intends to dig the
Race.

Page 191: Deed from LEMUEL COTTON to Absolam Hall for 75 acres of land was duly acknowledged.

Page 204: Deed from Samuel Gragg to LEMUEL COTTON for 200 acres of land was proved by Griswold Latimer.

peace for Jefferson County in the said Territory.

County of Pickering }

Whereas Lemuel Cotton, late of this County, did constitute and appoint Abigail Cotton, Executrix, John Smith & John Girault Executors of his last Will and Testament, and the same having been duly proven before me, filed and recorded in this Office, and the said Executrix and Executors legally sworn. To the intent that the said last Will and Testament may be well and truly executed, I have and hereby do, by virtue of the power bested in me by the Probate Law of this Territory, give, grant and commit unto the said Abigail Cotton, John Smith and John Girault; the Administration of all and singular the Estate of the said deceased, with full power unto them, to dispose thereof agreeable to the tenor of the said Will and according to the true intent and meaning of the Testator. And the said Executors and Executrix are hereby required to file in this Office, within three months from the date hereof, a true and perfect inventory of the said deceased’s estate; and to render a just and full account of their administration, whenever thereunto legally required. In testimony whereof I have undersigned my name and hereunto affixed my seal, at the Probate Office this twentieth day of April A.D. Eighteen hundred and one.
