Sophia (Sophronia) Tarbell may have came to St. Charles Co., MO after 1840 with her husband, or after his death, to be near her son, Josiah Woods Tarbell. Her daughter Sarah M. Tarbell probably came with her. In April 1846 she married Geo. A. W. Johnson.

By 1850 Sophia is living with daughter, Sarah (Tarbell) Downs as Sophia Johnson. Sophia evidently divorced Geo. A. W. Johnson before 1855.
